A habit of 12 years...glancing out the cabin screen door to check that Nick is still sitting on the bottom step. If he is not there, he has followed a chipmunk to the woodshed or is on the neighbors porch . . .

My internal alarm went off at 3:12 am. That is about the time I have been getting up for the last 3 weeks with my sheltie friend for a quick trip outside. Tonight he is in ICU. I don't know if anyone . . .

When your vet tells you to take your dog home after 10 days in ICU, with a catheter left in his leg to allow easier access to his vein for the final injection, with instructions to "love him up" . . .
